Restorative Yoga

What is it?

Restorative Yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. When you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, just doing a few poses in the course of an hour. It is a completely different experience than most yoga classes. The body is placed in supported postures using props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks etc. these help to enhance the healing benefits of "Active Surrender" which has a multitude of physical and psychological benefits.

In modern times "workhard play hard" is a common phrase, but that can be hard on your overall well-being. Restorative Yoga can help you relinquish attachments or habits that keep you jazzed up, which create dis-ease and imbalance.

When you allow your self to slow down, rest, and listen, you are now able to tap into your own power to heal with self-care. As muscles relax, blood vessels and internal organs will relax, body fluids will move easily and smoothly and heart beat will slow on the softening of the breath. We all deserve this so come try this class!

Relaxation is the antidote to stress. The relaxation response relates to the Parasympathetic Nervous System and it quiets the "Flight or Flight" qualities of the sympathetic nervous system so we can relax and restore homeostasis (balance).
